Trouble is My Business Part 3 (Page 17)
The first meeting. As always, Lee leaves a lasting impression on people.
Trouble is My Business Part 3 (Page 15) And A Birthday Greeting!
One of the things that I’ve always liked to do was have things going on in the background of my work. Because they are in a sleazy bar, what else is going to happen? A bar fight of course.
Happy Birthday to the person who Lee is based off of. You know who you are! Without you, this comic wouldn’t even be here. Have a great day!
(At this point I’d like to point out how cool it is that this comic has updated itself on both Isaac and Lee’s birthdays)
Trouble is My Business Part 3 (Page 14)
I love how this scene, not only shows how Rich is able to disarm someone, but that I was able to begin mentioning Scrappy. There is a story there, which I will explain later. This scene is about Rich disarming a situation with a smile and a hearty handshake.
Trouble is My Business Part 3 (Page 13)
Introducing, the one, the only Rich! The man, the myth, the legend. He always seems to steal the scenes he’s in. Definitely one of my favourite supporting characters.
Trouble is My Business Part 3 (Page 12)
I have to admit, I really struggled with the character design for these two antagonists. Although I have warmed up to them now. With this comic, I’ve always tried to keep the character designs simple and sketchy. I wanted to have simple characters, in a complex world with complex story lines…for the most part. As a result, I always feel very comfortable drawing the characters, it’s like coming home and hanging out with old friends.
Trouble is My Business Part 3 (Page 11)
This is what I like to call the “Mos Eisley” scene.
Trouble is My Business Part 3 (Page 10)
Well… I really liked the story at this point, but I certainly wouldn’t do a page layout like this now. Not unless the story called for it. This is one of those pages that I look at like one looks at an old hair style that they used to wear. Yikes!
Trouble is My Business Part 3 (Page 9)
I realise that not many people will get the grape nei-hi reference anymore. It was a favourite beverage of Radar from MASH (a tv show sitcom about the Vietnam War). Radar was the wide-eyed farm boy who was just beginning to experience the world.
This is one of those moments where I feel like I’m having to explain the joke, or the parallels used to describe the character. It’s merely my intention to provide this commentary just to give a little extra insight into what went into the comic.
Trouble is My Business Part 3 (Page 7)
The beginning of the bar scene. The challenging part of this was trying to reconcile art styles. I wanted the bar patrons to be a little more complex than Isaac and Lee. I modelled the bartender after an old Sunday comic strip.
